Understanding DMR

DMR was designed for commercial use. Accept that some things in DMR will not make sense from an Amateur Radio perspective.

Talk Group and Linked System Etiquette

Operating on a linked repeater network is different than using your local analog system.  Keep in mind that you can impact stations across the state and beyond. This has changed even more over the years with the emergence of hotspots.

  • Before utilizing the system, have a basic understanding of how it operates.
  • Understand that most talkgroups are linked into other networks (and vice versa).
  • Use the system in moderation so as to leave air time for other operators.
  • Select the appropriate talkgroup before transmitting, and consider the impact of your transmissions.
  • If two users are on different repeaters, they could make contact on Idaho Statewide and then QSY to Idaho TAC 31169 to continue the conversation.
  • Avoid prolonged contacts on the Idaho Statewide talkgroup.
