SMS - DMR Data (in process)

Purpose

Data is another tool within the DMR framework.  Although not like smartphone data, short messaging using DMR could be helpful when traditional commercial networks are unavailable.  It could also be used for scheduling skeds and bringing a group together for a Net or special event.

Examples:

  • Net tonight at 7:00PM.
  • Call me on x frequency at 1600.

Protocols

  • Motorola

                         1.  Motorola Advantage

                         2.  Motorola Standard

  • DMR Standard
  • Hytera Standard

Compatibility is the major issue to overcome before implementation.

Motorola

DMR SMS (short message service) data is undergoing testing.  So far we've tested Motorola XPR6550 <> Motorola R7 and it works simplex and via certain specified C-Bridge talk groups.  Testing is ongoing.

Alinco

The Alinco MD-520XLT, MD-500XLT and the MD-5XLT work simplex radio to radio using the DMR Standard or Motorola DMR Standard.  Motorola Advantage is not supported since these are not Motorola radios.

Text via C-Bridge talk groups do not work at this time.  Testing is ongoing.

AnyTone

Not supported.

Others

Not supported.

BrandMeister

Text via the BrandMeister Network is not supported.
