One of the biggest issues using DMR is user audio is way too loud or way too soft. Start with setting your audio in your customer programming software to mid-range or 3 on a scale of 1 to 5 as many radios have. Then adjust as you get feedback from other DMR users or use the Parrot function to read back your audio and adjust your settings appropriately. Here is a great article from PNW Digital on audio.
This is a direct result of using Digital Monitor Mode or so-called Promiscuous mode where your radio will hear ANY Talk Group on Any Color Code on a channel you have programmed. Program your radio for the specific talk group on the specific time slot you want to use and turn these other modes off. Be disciplined in talking and listening on the intended talk group and time slot.
Wait for your talk permit tone to complete after you press PTT for your radio to sync with the repeater system and the network before you start talking. So-called quick keying as done on analog will prevent you from being heard. This is a new skill you will have to master to use any digital radio effectively.
Announce what talk group you are on. If you come on the air and say your call sign or that you are listening and don't say what talk group you are on, listeners don't know which talk group to respond on unless they are looking at their radio during your transmission.
DMR repeaters and associated linked systems are very expensive. Use them understanding it is a shared resource with regular ongoing operational monthly expense. No donations or financial support is required or requested, and no donations are accepted. Proper use of the system is required.
DMR is a fantastic digital voice mode but discpline and technical knowledge is required to get the most out of it. Learn to program your radio. Read and study your radio manual. Learn and commit to memory DMR terms and concepts. No codeplugs are provided on this site. We want technically proficient operators, not appliance operators. Study.
